Why Bacteriostatic Water?
Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative, which inhibits bacterial growth after the vial seal is broken. This is critical when a single vial will be accessed multiple times over days or weeks — the standard pattern in most research protocols. Sterile water for injection lacks this preservative and is appropriate only for single-use reconstitution.
Standard Reconstitution Protocol
1. Allow the lyophilized vial to reach room temperature before opening to prevent condensation from forming on the powder.
2. Using a sterile syringe, draw the desired volume of bacteriostatic water.
3. Inject BW slowly down the inner wall of the vial — not directly onto the peptide cake. Forceful injection can damage peptide structure.
4. Gently swirl (do not shake) until fully dissolved. Shaking promotes degradation and foaming.
5. Allow several minutes for complete dissolution if needed — some peptides dissolve more slowly.
Storage Guidelines
